Summer Sessions at Indiana University Bloomington

The Campus

It is often said that the initial attraction to Indiana University Bloomington is the beauty of the campus. However, the campus landscape is merely a backdrop for quality faculty and the knowledge they convey. The faculty is comprised of many internationally recognized leaders in their fields.

Over 100 degree programs are offered to undergraduates through the  Kelley School of Business; School of Education; School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation; School of Informatics and Computing; School of Journalism; Jacobs School of Music; School of Nursing; School of Optometry; School of Public and Environmental Affairs; and School of Social Work. In addition to the College and the Schools, graduate study is offered in the School of Library and Information Science, as well as professional degree training in the Schools of Law, Medicine, and Optometry. An exciting array of workshops, institutes, and special programs are offered during the summer months in addition to over 1,000 academic courses that are offered. Beyond the classroom there are numerous cultural and recreational activities available on campus and in the surrounding area. An informative guide to summer cultural, recreational, and sports opportunities both on and off campus is published each June. The Indiana Memorial Union houses a billiards room and bowling lanes. Also, there is access to group exercise sessions and strength and conditioning rooms. A Cultural Experience

Living on the Bloomington campus is a cultural experience any time of year. The university's world-renowned Jacobs School of Music offers a comprehensive range of music including an orchestra series, a program of chamber music, choral recitals, opera, and musical theater. The Second Summer Session features a popular series of band concerts, spotlighting some of the School of Music's most accomplished students and faculty. The IU Art Museum houses collections of modern, primitive, ancient, and Asian art, as well as one of the country's finest exhibits of African art. Also, throughout the summer the museum offers innovative programs in the performing arts, such as Jazz in July. Designed by I.M. Pei & Partners, the building itself is worth a visit. Another museum collection that should not be missed is the William Hammond Mathers Museum, which has unique collections of artifacts with specific cultural or geographical themes from around the world. Don't forget to look into the university's extensive collection of historic and modern apparel of the Elizabeth Sage Historic Costume Collection, as well as the home of the university's first president, Andrew Wylie.
