Honors Program in Foreign Languages for High School Students

This highly selective program conducts intensive language learning sessions abroad in French, German, and Spanish for interested students from cooperating Indiana high schools. Students must be in at least their third year of study of a foreign language when they apply for the Honors Program. They are required to continue their foreign language study in their home high schools in the year following participation in the Honors Program.

About 250 students, up to 30 + students in each of the eight programs, are selected each year. Each student lives with a host family and pledges to speak only the foreign language while abroad. Classes of culture, conversation, grammar, literature, and phonetics as well as activities, such as choir, drama, and sports, are offered every day. Travel in the host country (France, Germany, Spain, or Mexico) is offered through a few field trips related to the classroom curriculum.
